Our newly appointed Women's team media officer, Brett Forrest, was at the game on Sunday. Here is his report.
Edinburgh South Women progressed to the quarter final of the League Cup following a 2-5 victory at Clydebank.
On a crisp winter day just three miles from Glasgow airport, a dramatic end which saw five goals in the last ten minutes gave South the win in a game where emotions ran high.
Both teams fielded strong elevens with South playing sixteen-year-old outfielder Eilidh Buchanan in goals due to cup ties and unavailability for the two regular keepers.
Edinburgh South found the opener in remarkable fashion after Louise Tulloch rifled the ball over the keeper from 25 yards out.
South then doubled their lead with another impressive goal after captain Emily Reynolds was found on the edge of the box, before she took a touch and volleyed it home.
Clydebank pulled one back just before half time after scoring from an indirect free kick in the box.
Throughout much of the second half, tempers flared following poor refereeing and some aggressive play from Clydebank.
With seven minutes to go, the home side found the equaliser after getting through on goal and finishing past Buchanan, commencing what would be a goal-ridden end to the game.
Just one minute after conceding, Edinburgh South took the lead again when Rhea Kilgallon shot across goal.
A well worked one-two put Niamh Inglis one in one in added time, who finished well to double South’s lead.
The visitors still had time for another before the final whistle after a low cross across goal is finished first time by Erin McComiskey.
Edinburgh South Women will be looking for a much more consistent performance throughout if they are to win in February’s quarter final, but on a cold November afternoon under the Glasgow airport flight path, it is South who fly into the next round.
